He was first elected to Southport Borough Council in 1963 and has retained his Councillorship right through to the present, holding positions of Liberal Democrat Group Leader on Southport Borough Council, Merseyside County Council and Sefton Metro Borough Council.

Ronnie Fearn has been a Voluntary Youth Leader in Southport for 21 years.

He has held many Parliamentary positions, including Liberal Democrat spokesman for England, Transport, Health, Tourism, Local Government and Housing. He has also held positions in the Liberal Democrat Federal Policy, Conference, and North West Regional Committees.
