BIOGRAPHY

Brian Spencer has lived all his life in St Helens and worked as an underground electrician for the NCB ( latterly British Coal) for nearly 30 years. He was a active member of the NUM, was a delegate to national conferences, and became a Branch Secretary in the NUM. He was first elected onto the Council in 1980 and has over 22 years experience as a Councillor. He has been the Leader of St Helens Council since taking control in 2006. He is keen on the environment and is firmly opposed to any expansion of nuclear energy. After being made redundant from British Coal he worked for a training company with the unemployed until taking up the full time role as Leader of the Council. He has been the Chairman and Trustee of the local miners club for 30 years.
