party spokesman on home affairs.
The son of a diplomat, Jeremy
Browne lived in many different countries as child, including Iran,
Zimbabwe and Belgium. He studied politics at Nottingham University where he was
elected president of the students’ union and spent a year as editor of the award

Outside politics Jeremy has experience working

management.
His first work with the Liberal Democrats was as personal
assistant to Alan Beith MP in 1993. Jeremy was the Liberal Democrat candidate in
Enfield Southgate in 1997, and then worked closely with party leaders Paddy
Ashdown and Charles Kennedy as the Liberal Democrats’ national Director of Press
and Broadcasting.
Selected as candidate for Taunton, he regained the seat
from the Conservatives for the Liberal Democrats in May 2005 with a majority of
573. Following his election Jeremy was appointed a spokesman on Foreign Affairs
by Charles Kennedy and continued in that role under the leadership of Sir
Menzies Campbell. Nick Clegg appointed him as Shadow Chief Secretary to the
Treasury.
Jeremy and lives in the middle of Taunton, and Jeremy takes a
hands-on approach to constituency affairs. He has visited all the secondary
schools and most of the primary schools in the area, worked on a farm, in a
supermarket and as a postman, and has gone on patrol with the local
police.
He takes a special interest in education and is a Governor at
Ladymead Community School in north Taunton. Jeremy enjoys travel and
adventurous holidays, and is a passionate sports fan, particularly following
football (Queens Park Rangers), rugby and cricket. His greatest relaxations are
restaurants and going for long winter walks on Cornish
beaches.
