BIOGRAPHY

Peter served as a locum Consultant Physician for about 15 years until 2003 in various parts of the UK before entering politics. Peter joined the Liberal Democrats in 1988 to improve the decision making of the political establishment by helping the Party to gain power.

Peter sees climate change as the most important threat to the world though linked with the fairness agenda, as it is the poorest countries that will withstand the worst of the effects of climate change while the richest counties have contributed the most to it.

Peter believes the countries of the world must learn quickly to collaborate better to meet the challenges that face them through international institutions such as the European Union, the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation.

At a local level, Peter has been a councillor in Middlewich since 1999. He is an active member of two local community groups: Middlewich Vision and a group seeking to reinstate regular passenger rail traffic on his local line. Peter is also a local school governor. He believes in devolving decision making and fund raising powers to the most local level possible to allow for greater flexibility in delivering services while enhancing effectiveness, accountability and transparency

Peter is involved in various pro-democracy campaigns, such as Party Funding, Lords Reform and Sustainable Communities and is an executive member of Charter 88. Charter 88 is merging with The New Politics Network, of which he is also a member, to form Unlock Democracy. Peter would like to see a written constitution drawn up to help protect individual and group human rights in this country.

Peter is presently training to be a life coach. He enjoys hill-walking, gardening and digital photography. He is also a member of the Soil Association, Practical Action and Shared Interest
