Ian Garrett

Candidate for Aldridge-Brownhills

General Election - 4 July 2024

Ian Garrett

Ian Garrett has been chosen to fight Aldridge-Brownhills again for the Liberal Democrats. Ian is a local teacher, who has been head of History for many years at St Francis of Assisi in the heart of Aldridge, and will be well known to many generations of Aldridge students and their families. He has campaigned alongside Walsall Liberal Democrats through that time, having previously been a Lib Dem councillor in the neighbouring borough of Sandwell. As a teacher, Ian is passionate about education and believes that education is an investment not just in the present, but in our country's future. But under the current Conservative government that has not been happening. Schools have been neglected, their buildings are crumbling and many children struggle with their mental health. Ian supports the Liberal Democrat plans to invest in schools, and their facilities, recruit teachers, and have a dedicated mental health professional in every school. Through his experience with local young people, Ian is well aware of the impact of the cost of living crisis on local families - energy bills, food prices and the cost of travel have rocketed in the last few years. Ian wants more help for residents feeling the squeeze, for example by ending the two-child cap on benefits. Ian has been involved in the local community for many years as a teacher here in Aldridge and is committed to putting the residents of Aldridge first.
