Rachel Bentley
Candidate for Bermondsey and Old Southwark
General Election - 4 July 2024
Rachel has lived in Bermondsey & Old Southwark for over ten years. She chose this area as her home because she loves its wonderful combination of history, vibrancy and culture.
Since settling in Bermondsey, Rachel has actively participated in various charitable projects. She has mentored young people, taught financial literacy and helped deliver food during the Covid pandemic. She is a trustee of an educational charity, and she provides emergency shelter to young people who are homeless.
Rachel decided to enter politics to combat the chaos and scandals which have plagued Westminster. She is committed to restoring trust and integrity in public life.
Rachel spent 16 years overseas, living and working in Japan, the USA and South Africa. In her professional work, she’s advised governments, families, businesses and charities on many matters, including job creation and land use. Rachel is a councillor and is the Deputy Leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrat Council Group.
Rachel is an experienced campaigner who believes we must prioritise safe, affordable and secure housing for all. She has campaigned on other issues including support for small businesses, period poverty and electoral reform. She has brought together groups from multiple London boroughs against the disruptive Oceandiva party boat and championed the environment by planting trees, campaigning against pollution in the Thames and tackling the blight of litter and fly-tipping.
Rachel is passionate about the environment and is at her happiest walking along the river or through cherished green spaces. She can be found pretty much every Saturday morning at the Southwark Parkrun running or cheering others on.
