Iain Donaldson

Candidate for Blackley and Middleton South

General Election - 4 July 2024

Iain Donaldson

Iain Donaldson was born at North Manchester General Hosptial and raised in Gorton in East Manchester. His father was a fitter in Engineering, and his mother waited tables before qualifying as a shorthand typist.

At the same time as serving his community as a local councillor for 19 years, Iain worked at the University of Manchester providing administrative support to the Manchester Self-Harm Project. He believes that Mental Health remains the least supported of our medical services and wants to see more funding and support given to preventing mental health crises.

Iain has been a school Governor, a trustee of a charity caring for vulnerable young people, an allotmenteer, a political activist, and an active campaigner for community organisations, and for getting more power out of Westminster and back in our communities where it belongs.

Having lived in Manchester since he was born, Iain moved to Heywood 5 years ago during the Covid pandemic to look after his ailing mother, who died in December 2021.

Iain is a lifelong campaigner for protecting our environment, high quality public services, and democratic accountability. He describes his core values as compassion, cooperation, and enablement.
