Mark Wooding

Mark Wooding grew up in Plymouth and lives near Crediton, in the Central Devon constituency.

At school Mark was active in the school sports teams, was a member of the schools ‘Ten Tors Team’ and a leading member of the technical team for the school’s drama productions.

He studied biochemistry at university. After university he went in to marketing and communications. In 1993 he started one of the United Kingdom’s first internet businesses which he eventually sold to the world’s largest advertising group, before going on to set up businesses for them in the Middle East.

In the early 2000s Mark moved into entertainment, making TV programmes and films. His best know programmes are the ‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’ series based on the world-famous videogame ‘Street Fighter’.

In 2010 Mark created and staged the world’s largest fireworks competition, the World Fireworks Championship, in Oman, to celebrate their ‘40th National Day’.

Mark is married - he got engaged on Sheepstor on Dartmoor - and enjoys, walking (on Dartmoor) , quizzes (he organises them for his village) and cooking (his best dishes are curries and a great fish pie). Mark has been active in campaigns to:

• Reopen wards at Okehampton Community Hospital

• Get potholes fixed

• Stop Devon County Council axing the mobile library service

• Get better provision for children with Special Educational Needs
