Nicholas Chan

Candidate for Chatham and Aylesford

General Election - 4 July 2024

Nicholas Chan is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Chatham and Aylesford. A strong local campaigner, Nicholas campaigns for a return to free swimming and clean rivers for water sports. In a legal clinic, Nicholas also advocates for social justice, helping out in a legal clinic where I can advise families and assist with unfairness from landlords.

Nicholas knows how a fair deal can help families in challenging times. Being brought up single-handedly by my mother with my sister, he saw her work hard giving the children the best start in life. Also, she worries about being the sole carer and the psychological stress of being the only dependable parent. Nicholas draws from these experiences to stand up for family carers and investments in mental health.

Born in Hong Kong, Nicholas’s family was also particularly affected by challenging regimes which defy our national security and the British way of life. That is why he wants to restore the UK’s position as a leader in international development. We need fairness in our trade, allowing British industries to build resilient trade networks. Further, Nicholas works with policymakers to stop goods manufactured with forced labour - such as some factories in Xinjiang - and better control of arms exports to countries with poor human rights records.

Nicholas trained as a psychologist graduating from the University of Western Australia and James Cook University, and now furthering professional training in Law.
