Katharine Macy

Candidate for Colne Valley

General Election - 4 July 2024

Katharine Macy

Katharine is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Colne Valley and a lifelong campaigner. They have been involved in the Party for a long time, and currently champion minority rights, with expertise in carer, disability and LGBTQ+ rights.

Katharine is a kind, hardworking individual who is about to complete a self funded PhD on autism in evolution, providing them with a strong research background and determination to succeed.

They have always worked part time jobs, from a bartender to policy, and currently work as both an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator in a Higher Education Institution. This passion for fairness shines through in their political work. They helped to write and pass the Young Carers motion and Autistic Support motion that the Liberal Democrats champion.

When Katharine’s partner passed away from cancer, at aged 25, they realised the vital work the NHS does but also saw firsthand how underfunded and overworked all of the amazing staff were.

Katharine’s top priorities are ensuring the NHS gets the funding it needs to provide the top quality service that everyone deserves, focusing on the Cost of Living crisis to make day to day life easier for everyone, and providing a voice for disabled individuals.
