Jon Whitehouse
Candidate for Epping Forest
General Election - 4 July 2024
Liberal Democrat Jon Whitehouse is the best choice to be Epping Forest’s new MP. Jon lives in Epping and has a track record of working for local people.
Jon grew up in Epping, went to school in the town and was Mayor of Epping in 2012. He is the only major party candidate who lives in the constituency. Residents have elected Jon multiple time to represent them and take up local issues on the district and town councils.
As a district councillor Jon was at the forefront of challenging policies in the Conservatives’ controversial local plan which will bring thousands of new homes to Epping Forest without securing the infrastructure to support them. He successfully campaigned with residents to keep a sports centre in Epping, and earlier this year successfully worked to reverse cuts to local voluntary organisation funding.
“My top priorities for Epping Forest are to improve access to local GP appointments, deliver the often-postponed new local hospital, improve support for those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis and protect our very special local environment,” he said.
Jon is deeply involved in the local community. He is a coach and committee member at Loughton Athletic Club and served for over ten years as a local school governor. Jon is also Treasurer of the conservation charity Friends of Swaines Green which organises the May Fayre in Epping. He a frequent timekeeper at Roding Valley parkrun – helping people of all ages get active - and a volunteer at Copped Hall Open Days.
More and more people are backing the Liberal Democrats in Epping Forest. The Liberal Democrats have doubled their number of councillors on the district council since 2021, gaining seats from the Conservatives in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
