Ian Roome

Candidate for North Devon

General Election - 4 July 2024

Ian Roome

Ian Roome lives in Pilton, Barnstaple. He has two daughters and one grandson. He grew up in the Sheffield but moved to North Devon 36 years ago while serving in the Royal Air Force, serving both in the UK and overseas.

After completing his time in the RAF Ian has worked in acute and community mental health services, social housing management and leads a charity fundraising for various projects to support the NHS. His achievements include leading various fundraising campaigns to raise over £7m for NHS facilities particularly cancer services at North Devon District Hospital. He is a local champion and volunteers for various charities as well as being a local Liberal Democrat councillor.

Now Ian is Leader of North Devon Council and the head the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity. His charity fundraising work was instrumental in the creation of the Seamoor Unit and Fern Centre at North Devon District Hospital.

Ian's top priorities for Devon are: cutting waiting times for GPs, ambulances and operations; getting a fairer deal for Devon's farmers and ending the sewage scandal polluting our beaches. Dentist provision in North Devon needs addressing too with many in the constituency unable to get an appointment.

"I have loved North Devon ever since I moved came in 1989, it's why I decided to stay. I’m very proud to live here. Our incredible communities deserve a strong independent-minded MP who will put local people first. North Devon's representative in Westminster, not Westminster representative in North Devon. I’m standing to make sure we get an MP fighting for our area." Ian Roome
