Richard Flowers

Candidate for Poplar and Limehouse

General Election - 4 July 2024

Richard Flowers

Richard is a local campaigner, who has lived in Tower Hamlets for 30 years, campaigning for LGBT+ rights and migrants' right, as well as working to win Liberal Democrat votes for Council, London Assembly, Mayor and Parliament. During the pandemic he helped delivering hot meals to vulnerable people in Poplar and the Isle of Dogs.

“I’m proud of the local campaigns I’ve helped deliver, whether it’s walking the streets with Mayoral hopefuls from Susan Kramer to Brian Paddick to Caroline Pidgeon, or a by-election in the East End, or the Brexit referendum where 67% of people in Tower Hamlets voted Remain. People need to hear Liberal voices speaking up for Freedom and Fairness and hope for the Future.”

Richard grew up in the North West before going to university, and then moving to London for work. He's a Chartered Accountant, working for an international beauty company with a strong record of protecting the natural environment. His experience of working with people from across Europe drives him to want to set right the injustices of Brexit.

Richard has put his skills and values into action as Treasurer of LGBT+ Lib Dems, Humanist and Secularist Liberal Democrats, and pro-migration pressure group Lib Dem Immigrants.

“My proudest achievement is contributing to the Same Sex Marriage campaign. I married my husband, Alex, thanks to Lib Dems in Parliament making same-sex marriage legal!”

He's now the Treasurer of the Liberal Democrats in England, and has helped fund the Lib Dem fightback since 2019.
