Steven Rajam
Candidate for Vale of Glamorgan
General Election - 4 July 2024
The Welsh Liberal Democrats have announced Steven Rajam as their candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan for the next General Election.
Steven has lived and worked in the Cowbridge area for more than 15 years, and stood for the Welsh Liberal Democrats at the most recent Senedd and council elections. Steven and the local Lib Dem team have campaigned to protect independent high street businesses, stop the expansion of quarrying and HGVs rumbling along streets regularly used by schoolchildren, and for new housing developments to meet the needs of local people, not fill the pockets of developers.
Steven runs a successful independent audio and podcast company based in the Vale of Glamorgan, and has received a number of top industry awards for his work. A single Dad, he's passionate about connecting communities and ensuring that local people have a say in their lives and futures - not committees far away in Cardiff or London.
With Sri Lankan and French heritage, Steven is passionate about internationalism and talking to, compromising with and building bridges with others, not clinging to ideology and bickering until the cows come home like Labour, Conservatives and Plaid Cymru. And he's proud to be a member of a party with a truly progressive set of environmental policies - far greener than the Greens.
Away from politics, Steven is a keen musician and a passionate - if sometimes weary - fan of Southampton FC.
Commenting on his selection, Steven Rajam stated:
"I'm thrilled and honoured to be representing the community that I love. For too long, huge swathes of the Vale of Glamorgan have been ignored by the major parties, who seem to only care about their own voter base. Voters are fed up with a moribund Conservative Party in Westminster that doesn't care about them, a complacent Labour Party that's been in charge for a quarter of a century in Cardiff and has achieved very little, and an independence-at-all-costs Plaid Cymru that's hell-bent on spending taxpayers' money on a hugely expensive referendum.
Only the Liberal Democrats offer a truly progressive, inclusive, vision for our country: one where power isn't concentrated by a cabal of politicians, but is truly in the hands of the people. If elected, I vow to represent every single person in the Vale of Glamorgan - whoever they are, wherever they're from and whoever they voted for."
