John Howson

Candidate for Weald of Kent

General Election - 4 July 2024

John Howson

Cllr John Howson is an experienced Liberal Democrat councillor who has been serving the residents of a rural county since 2013. He understands the issue facing those living in rural areas where bus services are poor, visits to hospitals can mean a long drive, and even longer searching for a parking space. John has worked to ensure parish council that want 20 mph limits can have them. He also champions all schools being hubs for renewable energy, along with village hall

John has spent a career in education, as a teacher, training teachers across England, as a civil servant (briefly) and as a business owner. He wrote a series of columns for a national newspaper for eleven years and has written his own blog at www.johnohowson.wordpress.com

For twenty years John served as a magistrate resigning on becoming a councillor., He was elected National Vice Chair of their Association for several years by his peers. John is also a vice President of the Liberal Democrats Education Association. His other interest is in transport, and particularly railways both present and heritage.

John is keen to be the first MP for the Weald of Kent and serve the whole constituency as its first representative at Westminster.
