Liberal Democrats Abroad
About Lib Dems Abroad
The 2022 Elections Act has enfranchised British citizens living abroad, opening up exciting new opportunities for the party.
Launched in Autumn 2017, Lib Dems Abroad currently encompasses some 1,000 Liberal Democrat members and 1,300 Liberal Democrat supporters living outside the UK.
It is comprised of three local parties:
-
Lib Dems in Europe (formerly Brussels and Europe Lib Dems)
The main objectives of Lib Dems Abroad are:
-
To identify and represent the interests of an estimated 5.5 million British citizens - around 8% of all British citizens – who live abroad
-
To campaign for their votes and fund-raise for the Liberal Democrat Party during UK General Elections
-
To grow the organisation by recruiting and supporting our members
The Liberal Democrats support the introduction of overseas constituencies so the voices and needs of British citizens abroad can be better taken account of.
Lib Dems Abroad is currently situated within the party’s internal structures as a subcommittee of the Federal International Relations Committee.
How do I join Lib Dems Abroad?
Liberal Democrat supporters living abroad can join the party using the general registration page.
