Our values have put us on the right side of history: From leading the fight against the Iraq war and tripling renewable energy production, to legalising same-sex marriage and campaigning for a better relationship with our European neighbours.
Where we see injustice, we tackle it. We always stand up for what’s right – not just for what’s popular. For 30 years, we’ve challenged poverty, ignorance and conformity. For 30 years, we’ve demanded better for everyone in our country.
We’re liberal, progressive, and internationalist.
These values are in short supply in British politics today, but we won’t stop fighting for what’s right.
We turn our beliefs into meaningful action - we led the fight against the Iraq war, we tripled renewable energy production, scrapped mandatory ID cards, legalised same-sex marriage, and campaigning for a better relationship with our European neighbours.
Every single one of our members gets a vote on policy, our leader, and any changes we make to the party.
When members join us from Labour and the Conservatives, they’re amazed at how much power Liberal Democrat members have. No more decisions being steam-rolled by the unions or filthy-rich donors - the shape of our party and policy is up to you.
Our members get to introduce and vote on policy, regularly speak to our MPs, president and CEO, and are empowered to make decisions at a local level.
As a card-carrying, Liberal Democrat member, you directly shape and decide our policies and our campaigns. Here are some of the benefits:
As a supporter, not only will you get regular updates on our campaigns, but you get to have your say on those campaigns. You can:
Joining as a member starts at just £15 a year, or 50p per month if you're eligible for the concessionary rate. The recommended membership rate is £6 a month and most members choose to pay about £3 a month.
Unlike the Tories, we don’t rely on a small number of super-wealthy donors. Unlike Labour, we don’t rely on the trade unions.
Everything we do relies on funds from our members. Membership fees go directly towards making sure we’re ready to fight and win elections.
Party membership is not open to members of other GB political parties.
If you are a member of another GB political party, but want to stay up to date with us and be a part of the Liberal movement, sign up for regular news and updates from us here: www.libdems.org.uk/updates and you can, of course, support us financially by making a donation: www.libdems.org.uk/donate
You can cancel your membership of the party at any time by writing to us here or via post to: Liberal Democrats, 1 Vincent Square, London, SW1P 2PN
Ed Davey is a husband, a father and a carer. He is the Leader of the Liberal Democrats.
It is Ed’s experience of caring that drives much of his politics, and motivates his tireless campaigning for a fair deal.
