Carers UK report: Ministers need to "step up and give carers the fair deal that they deserve"
EMBARGO: 00.01 Thursday 20th February
Responding to a report from Carers UK, which showed that more than half (57%) of carers ‘often’ or ‘always’ feel overwhelmed, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:
"Things are really tough for a lot of carers right now. I've heard from so many who are struggling as they do invaluable work looking after loved ones. They need more support.
"The Conservative Party took carers for granted and then hounded thousands of them for repayments of Carer's Allowance because of DWP's own failures. This Labour Government cannot be allowed to repeat the same mistakes.
"We urgently need to see Ministers step up and give carers the fair deal that they deserve. Carers should be at the heart of the cross-party solution we need to fix social care and save the NHS, because we simply can't do it without them."
