Flu ‘tidal wave’: new government cannot allow this crisis to spiral

Responding to the NHS stating that a ‘tidal wave’ of flu is hitting hospitals with the number of patients with flu in hospitals being 3.5 times higher that the same time last year, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson Helen Morgan MP said:

“This winter promises to be one of the most challenging on record with patients paying the price for years of Conservative neglect.

“The new government needs to urgently take steps to prevent this crisis spiralling out of control and wreaking havoc on our hospitals. Thousands of patients are already struggling to access their local A&E and too many are being treated in corridors and left without the care they need.

“Ministers must bring forward plans to winterproof the NHS, as the Liberal Democrats have been calling for for months now, and make this the last winter crisis the NHS and patients have to suffer through.”
