131,000 children in insecure housing scandal: Irreparable damage to life chances

31 Jul 2023

EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the latest homelessness statistics, the Liberal Democrats have hit out at the government failure to get homelessness under control.

The latest statistics, which show over 131,000 children in temporary accomodation, are a damning indictment on the government's lack of willingness to address homelessness.

The Liberal Democrats said that the soaring levels of child homelessness were particularly concerning with the knock-on effect of insecure housing on the life chances of thousands of young people.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Housing Spokesperson, Helen Morgan said:

"It's heartbreaking that thousands of children are being left without a permanent place to call home

"The government need to take urgent action to end the scandal of insecure housing for young people.

"If this Conservative caused scandal continues, the life chances of thousands of young people will be irreparably damaged.
