Angiolini Report: Harrowing yet important step for justice

29 Feb 2024

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to Part One of the Angiolini Report, Liberal Democrat MP and former Police Officer Wendy Chamberlain said:

“The findings of this report are harrowing, but an important step towards the closure the Everard family so deeply deserves.

“The uncomfortable reality is that without true institutional and cultural change across the police service, we risk terrible tragedies like this happening again.

“We cannot keep perpetuating this heartbreaking cycle. The buck ultimately stops with the Home Secretary, and it’s up to him to ensure the recommendations of the Angiolini Report are accepted in full.

“We cannot forget the importance of implementing the watershed Casey review either, where progress has been slow. The public deserves transparency and to see tangible impacts when it comes to implementing both of these reviews."

Notes to Editors

Liberal Democrat research from November 2023 revealed that more than 120 Met officers were still working as normal while under investigation for sexual or domestic abuse.
