Birthday Honours List: Liberal Democrats see two people honoured for their services

18 Jun 2023

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

The Liberal Democrats see two people honoured in the Birthday Honours list. Prue Bray was awarded an MBE for her political services, while Heather Kidd was awarded an MBE for her services to rural communities.

Prue Bray

Prue Bray was awarded an MBE for her services to politics, both locally and nationally. In her local area of Winnersh, Prue works hard for her community as a councillor, volunteer and campaigner. And she has been a long-time party volunteer. Her roles in the LiberalDemocrats range from Chair of the party’s English Candidates Committee, where she oversaw the selection and approval of parliamentary candidates, to Vice Chair for the English Party.

Since 2020, Prue has served as the Chair of the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors and Campaigners (ALDC), which supports councillors and campaigners across the country. There, she has helped revolutionise the party’s campaign capacity, culminating in a strong set of local election results.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Ed Davey MP commented:

“Prue has always gone above and beyond for the Liberal Democrats, dedicating herself to voluntary service with little recognition or personal benefit herself.

“Always willing to pitch in where needed, her wealth of knowledge has made a significant difference to our party. I am so thrilled she is getting the recognition she deserves.”

Heather Kidd

Heather Kidd was awarded an MBE for her work as an advocate for rural communities - both improving the lives of local people in Shropshire, and enabling others to do the same in rural areas across the country. She is an active local politician, first elected to South Shropshire District Council in 1996 and now serving on the unitary Shropshire Council. In these roles, Heather has implemented successful housing policies and campaigned for better healthcare access.

Nationally, Heather has brought the same commitment to supporting rural communities - being a vice Chair on Sparse, the forerunner of the Rural Services Network, spearheading a rural policy working group for the party and mentoring other rural campaigners and councillors as a Peer Mentor at the Local Government Association.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Ed Davey MP commented:

“Heather is a shining example of a community champion. Her tenacity, wealth of knowledge and utter commitment to affecting change - whatever it takes - is brilliant to behold.

“What Heather has achieved in Shropshire and beyond is awe inspiring. We in the Liberal Democrats are so proud of her and this well-deserved accomplishment.”
