CMA petrol prices: Bosses should be hauled into Dowing St and told to give up bonuses
EMBARGO: Immediate release
Responding to the Competition and Markets Authority report on petrol retailers, which found customers have paid over £900m more in fuel costs because of weak competition, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:
“This scathing report shows ministers have been asleep at the wheel while drivers are fleeced by petrol profiteers.
“The government has failed to properly police the road fuel market leaving families to fork out higher prices at the pump.
“Rishi Sunak needs to crack down now on this petrol profiteering, by hauling the bosses responsible into Downing Street and holding them to account.
“The CEOs of petrol firms who have failed to cut prices in line with wholesale costs should be told to give up their bonuses and slash prices over the summer.”
