Cooper: Hard to know if there any red lines the Govt isn’t willing to cross in their scramble to secure a Trump deal
EMBARGO: Immediate Release
Responding to reports that Chancellor Rachel Reeves has signalled the UK could lower tariffs on US car imports, in attempts to broker a trade deal with the Trump administration, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Treasury Spokesperon, Daisy Cooper MP said:
“At this point, it’s hard to know if there are any red lines the Government isn’t willing to cross in their scramble to secure a Trump trade deal.
“We’ve already heard reports of the UK opening the doors to chlorinated chicken, US healthcare firms and now favourable treatment for US car manufacturers - right when Trump is hitting our automotive industry.
“There’s so much at stake it’s time for the Government to commit to a Parliamentary vote on any trade deal.”
