Darren Jones disability comments: owes an apology to the hundreds of thousands his Government “pushed into poverty”

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to Darren Jones’s comments on comparing cuts to disability benefits to cutting his children’s pocket money, Liberal Democrat Work and Pensions spokesperson Steve Darling MP, who is himself registered blind, said:

“This is incredibly insulting and shows the Government just doesn't understand the challenges facing people with disabilities. Darren Jones owes an apology to the hundreds of thousands of people his Government’s decision has pushed into poverty and the millions more whose lives they have made more challenging.

"If the Government was serious about managing the welfare bill it would urgently fix social care, not wait three years for a review that should be completed by the end of this year at the very latest.”
