Ed Davey performs Christmas Single with young carers outside Number 10 Downing Street
EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey and Bath Philharmonia Young Carers’ Choir have performed their Christmas single ‘Love is Enough’ outside 10 Downing Street this afternoon.
Ed Davey and the Bath Philharmonia Young Carers’ Choir are raising awareness of young carers at Christmas time, with a single written by six young carers and former young carers. All profits will go to the Carers Trust and Bath Philharmonia.
On their visit to Downing Street, the young carers from Bath Philharmonia Young Carers' Choir dropped off a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, asking him to use his influence to improve the lives of young carers so that they can reach their full potential while caring for their loved ones.
Today’s performance forms part of the final push for the single as the UK’s Christmas Number 1 will be announced this Friday. Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has pledged to sky dive in the new year if the single hits 10,000 downloads this week.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said:
“It has been an utter privilege to spend time with this group of remarkable young people, raising awareness of the challenges facing young carers like them up and down the country through their song Love is Enough.
“We’re so grateful that the Prime Minister allowed the Bath Philharmonia Young Carers’ Choir to come to Number 10 to perform today, a memory I am sure they and their families will never forget. I hope the Prime Minister will also give consideration to the ideas they have set out to help bridge the gap that young carers often face in education.”

The letter sent to the PM said:
Dear Prime Minister
We would like you to consider ways to make our voices known and for us to be recognised as young carers through spreading awareness with the power you have as our country’s leader.
For us as a collective, we were robbed of our childhoods and haven’t had the same opportunities to reach our full potential which we deserve to fulfil.
We are hoping you hear our voices and can help us to achieve the opportunities we deserve through looking for ways to advance in education and bridging the gap of inequality for us.
Would you consider this through contextual college course offers or supporting a tutoring programme for young careers who struggle to attend school and college?
We are the youth who are going to make a difference to this country through employment with the many invaluable skills and life lessons we’ve learnt through our difficult paths. It would mean the world to us if you could hear our voices and make a change that would make us remember you forever.
Yours sincerely,
Bath Philharmonia Young Carers’ Choir
