GDP figures: families and small businesses are "living with the consequences of anaemic growth"
EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to the ONS' revised GDP estimates, which show the economy continues to see little growth since last summer, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:
"These minor revisions will be cold comfort to the families, pensioners and small business owners who have to live with the consequences of anaemic growth, higher taxes and shrinking support. The Chancellor's Spring Statement was a huge missed opportunity to deliver the change people were crying out for after years of Conservative chaos and mismanagement.
"The slashing of growth to these limp levels is a hammer blow to the Labour Government’s economic credibility. It's clear that their strategy isn't working. The Chancellor must change course and immediately launch negotiations for a new UK-EU customs union to kickstart growth, and rule out cutting taxes on US tech giants at Trump and Musk’s behest – especially when families across Britain face eye-watering cuts."
