Govt sewage plan: Too weak and feeble. It's time to get a grip and hit water firms where it hurts.

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to reports of the government putting an end to water firms self-monitoring sewage spills, and finally considering action on bonuses, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Tim Farron MP said:

"This is simply too weak and feeble from a government that has dragged it's heels on the sewage scandal for too long.

"Whilst it's welcome the Minister has finally put an end to the farce that was self-monitoring of sewage, that Liberal Democrats have long called for, the blunt truth is you have to follow the money. It's time to get a grip and hit water firms where it hurts, starting with banning their insulting bonuses. They should no longer be stuffing their pockets whilst destroying our environment."
