IMF confirms what the British public already knows - the sums simply don't add up

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to the IMF's criticism of Kwasi Kwarteng's budget and blaming it for higher than expected interest rates, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney said:

"The IMF confirms what the British public already knows; the sums simply don't add up on this botched budget.

"Homeowners are being forced to pick up the tab for Kwasi Kwarteng's fantasy economics. Every day thousands of struggling families face a mortgage cliff edge as their fixed-deals expire.

"Kwasi Kwarteng should finally listen to the IMF, the markets, and most importantly of all, British homeowners. U-turn now before before you bankrupt Britain."
