Kwarteng should catch the first plane back from Washington to save the British economy

12 Oct 2022

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to Kwasi Kwarteng being in Washington today despite pension funds being at risk, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:

"Kwasi Kwarteng should catch the first plane back from Washington to save the British economy. The Government has 48 hours to save pension funds. There is not a second to lose.

"People's hard earned pensions are on the line here. An emergency cabinet meeting with the Prime Minister and Chancellor is needed today. Nothing is more important than this. It is time Kwarteng dropped his arrogant defense of a fantasy budget which has trashed the pound and sent mortgage bills spiraling.

"He is now playing politics with people's pensions."
