Latest GP stats: Conservatives have broken their promise to hire more GPs

24 Aug 2023

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the latest NHS figures which show that the number of GPs has fallen by over 1,000 since the Conservatives pledged to recruit 6,000 more GPs in 2019, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“With the number of GPs continuing to plummet, it shows Ministers’ total disregard for the needs of patients.

“The truth is plain and simple: the Conservatives have broken their promise to hire more GPs.

"In contrast by pledging to recruit and retain more GPs, the Liberal Democrats have set out a clear plan to ensure everyone can see their doctor when they need to."
