Local MP: Justice has been served, now we must have an immediate inquest into Sara Sharif's murder

17 Dec 2024

EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the sentencing of Sara Sharif's father and stepmother, Liberal Democrat MP for Woking, Will Forster, said:

“What happened to Sara was appalling, heartbreaking, and vile. Although it's right that justice has been served, we now owe it to Sara's memory to ensure that a horrendous case like this can't happen again.

“It’s heartbreaking to think of the warning signs that were missed that allowed Sara to die at the hands of those who were meant to protect her.

“Alongside the safeguarding review that has already been announced, I am pushing for an immediate inquest into her murder. These will be vital for understanding how the system let Sara down and what changes will be needed to prevent this tragedy from happening again.

“We owe it to Sara - and every vulnerable child - that they are never at risk in the future.”
