Mortgage rate reaches 6% - Not the kind of growth Britons want to see

5 Oct 2022

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to the news that a typical fixed rate mortgage has topped 6 per cent, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson, Sarah Olney said:

“This is not the kind of growth Britons want to see.

“With families and pensioners already fighting to keep up with the cost of living, the ‘Kwarteng premium’ is now set to cause further misery for struggling homeowners.

“This Conservative Government is betraying ordinary people, they must get back to Parliament, fix their mess and put an end to this mortgage misery.”

Notes to Editor:

Moneyfacts have reported typical two year fixed rate mortgage has topped 6% for first time in 14 years
