Neighbourhood policing pledge: Govt must reassure police can focus on communities

3 Dec 2024

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to reports that the government will pledge an additional 13,000 neighbourhood police officers, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Lisa Smart MP said:

“After years of failure from the previous Conservative government, our police forces across the country have been stretched to the limit. This has led to too many victims not getting the justice they deserve, and too many communities feeling unsafe.

“This announcement is a step in the right direction, and hopefully it can start to address the Conservative cuts to frontline policing.

“However, the government should provide reassurance that these new officers will actually have the time and resources to focus on their local neighbourhoods - so that our communities can finally start to see more bobbies out on the beat delivering the proper neighbourhood policing they deserve.”
