New hospitals: 2030 is pie in the sky. What a farce.

EMBARGO: Immediate release

The Secretary of State for Health has given an update on the 40 new hospitals promised to communities by 2030. However in the statement, Steve Barclay refused to confirm when construction work would begin on most of the new hospitals.

Responding to the announcment, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“This is shaping up to be a disgraceful broken promise to communities across the country.  Frankly, 2030 is pie in the sky.

“There is still no sign of these new hospitals and today confirms for some, there will be no spades in the ground for years to come. What a farce.

“It is a hammer blow for patients being treated in crumbling wards and nurses working in dangerous conditions. It is a national scandal that our hospitals are being left in this state.

“The Conservative party manifesto was not worth the paper it was written on. Local people promised a new hospital will feel betrayed.

“The Health Secretary needs to come clean to patients and staff and stop tying to pull the wool over people's eyes"
