Pensioners "worried sick" as analysis reveals impact of Winter Fuel Payment cut

4 Sep 2024

EMBARGO: 00:01 Wednesday 4th September

Responding to an analysis from LCP, reported by PA, which says 5 out of 6 pensioners below the poverty line are set to lose Winter Fuel Payments, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey MP said:

“These worrying findings show that many poorer pensioners are facing yet another winter cost of living crisis because of the Government's cut to Winter Fuel Payments.

"Vulnerable pensioners across the country are worried sick about losing their Winter Fuel Payments. Many will simply not be able to afford to heat their homes this winter, and that is just plain wrong.

“With energy bills set to rise and the cost of living still so high, losing this vital support will hurt so many already in poverty. Pensioners suffered badly under the last Conservative government pensioners, now the new Government must urgently rethink its decision.”
