Police instructed to make fewer arrests shows govt "shambolic mismanagement"

Responding to the news that police are being instructed to consider making fewer arrests because of the lack of space in prisons, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Alistair Carmichael MP said:

"Shambolic mismanagement from Conservative Ministers has run our prison system to the ground and now we're at risk of letting criminals get away with it.

"Under this Government thefts and burglaries regularly go unsolved and now we're seeing the preposterous suggestion that the police should not be making arrests.

"This cannot continue, community policing is being eroded each and every day under this Government and people are crying out for change."
