Police red tape cut is "too little too late"

14 Apr 2023

EMBARGO: 00:01 13th April

Responding to the Home Office announcement on cutting police force red tape, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson Alistair Carmichael MP said:

"This announcement is simply too little, too late. People are losing confidence in the police because of Conservative mismanagement.

"People want to know that when they have been the victims of burglary, car theft, fraud or some other serious crime they will get a swift response and that the person responsible with be brought to justice. Too often they don’t even get that basic level of service.

"We need to see a visible police presence on our streets but as the government continues to cut the numbers of PCSOs that gets worse rather than better.

"The Conservatives are failing to tackle crime and people up and down the country know this announcement will make little difference to that."
