Powis's resignation: New leadership must fix crisis in NHS

6 Mar 2025

EMBARGO: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to NHS England medical director, Stephen Powis’s resignation, Helen Morgan MP, Liberal Democrat Health and Care Spokesperson, said:

“Stephen Powis’s dedication and service to the NHS is greatly appreciated.  However, this change of administration must be accompanied by wider reform of our NHS.

“After years of Conservative mismanagement, the NHS is on its knees, leaving millions of patients struggling to access GPs, routine appointments, and emergency care.

“This crisis cannot go on any longer. The new leadership must work alongside the government to deliver the quality of care that patients deserve and urgently need.”
