Reeves speech: Boosting growth without fixing our trade with Europe like “driving with the handbrake on”

29 Jan 2025

EMBARGO: 22.30 Tuesday 28th January

Ahead of the Chancellor’s speech today (Wednesday 29th), Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“Trying to boost growth without fixing our trading relationship with Europe is like driving with the handbrake on.

“The government needs to put the national interest first and negotiate a new UK-EU customs union that would put rocket boosters under the economy.

“On top of this, the Chancellor’s jobs tax is hammering small businesses that are the backbone of our economy.

“People want to see this government being far bolder and more ambitious in fixing the damage done by years of economic vandalism under the Conservatives. Their efforts so far don’t come close to the mark.”
