Sewage dry spills: Firms should be held criminally responsible and see their day in court

5 Sep 2023

EMBARGO: Immediate release

Responding to the BBC's investigation into water companies discharging sewage when it hasn't rained, Liberal DemocratEnvironment spokesperson Tim Farron MP said:

"These revelations are scandalous and the government must act immediately.

"Ministers have been told for months about these dry spills yet they refuse to take any action.

"These companies should be held criminally responsible and see their day in court if found to be breaching their permits.

"It is appalling that most of these polluting firms refused to hand over their data, yet again they are committing insulting cover ups."
