Social Care: Streeting says doesn’t need to wait for a review to act so why is he taking three years

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the Health Secretary’s comments to BBC Panorama where he says that he doesn’t need to wait for a review to act and that he plans to divert more NHS money into social care, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson Helen Morgan MP said:

“This Government’s approach to social care is a confused mess. First they say they need to understand the challenges facing the sector and launch a three year review despite these challenges being visible from outer space.

“Now the Health Secretary says he does not need a review to act. Of course any new funding is welcome, but the Government needs to stop messing around and get a grip on this crisis.

“People and their loved ones have been suffering for too long with inadequate social care. It is not acceptable to lead them up the garden path for another three years, putting many through unnecessary misery.

“It is time the Government got serious and completed their review by the end of the year.”
