Spring Statement: Chancellor must scrap jobs tax or risk "epidemic of empty shop fronts"

25 Mar 2025

EMBARGO: 22.30 Tuesday 25 March

Ahead of the Chancellor delivering her Spring Statement today, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“If the Chancellor presses ahead with her jobs tax she risks an epidemic of empty shop fronts.

“Today, Rachel Reeves must accept that her Budget has failed to deliver the growth the Government promised after years of Conservative economic vandalism.

“Instead of clobbering our high streets with job-killing taxes, the Chancellor should get the big banks, social media giants and online gambling companies to pay their fair share.”
