Starmer confirms online safety on the table in Trump trade talks: Parliament must be given a vote

8 Apr 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the Prime Minister confirming at today's Liaison Committee hearing that online safety commitments and the tech tax are on the table in talks over a trade deal with Trump, Calum Miller MP, Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, said:

“Keir Starmer must commit to giving Parliament a say over any future Trump trade deal, including any concessions over online safety and the tech tax.

“It would be immoral for Trump's tech bro backers to be given tax breaks while children's safety online is thrown under the bus.

"The safety of our young people must not be used as a pawn in negotiations over a Trump trade deal.”
