Sunak’s five broken tax pledges: Everyone knows he is tax-hiker-in-chief
EMBARGO: Immediate release
Ahead of the Autumn Statement tomorrow, the Liberal Democrats have reminded Rishi Sunak of his other five pledges: Broken promises on tax cuts.
Since 2019, Rishi Sunak has pledged to cut taxes on hardworking families and businesses. Yet at the same time, the country’s tax burden has reached a 70 year high.
SUNAK’S FIVE BROKEN TAX PLEDGES
- Cut income tax (Leadership election) - BROKEN and increased it on working families.
- National Insurance on working families - (Conservative Manifesto). BROKEN and increased.
- National Insurance on small busineses - (Conservative Manifesto). BROKEN and increased
- Business rates - (Conservative Manifesto) BROKEN.
- Cut VAT on energy bills - (Leadership Campaign). BROKEN.
Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:
“Rishi Sunak is trying to take the country for fools. Everyone knows he is tax-hiker-in-chief and has cost hardworking families thousands of pounds in increased taxes.
“The Prime Minister is obviously a fan of breaking his famous five pledges, so it's time to remind him of the last five he broke.
“No matter what the Conservative government announces tomorrow, they have left the country drowning in mortgage and tax bills. Is anybody better off than they were four years ago?”
