Surrey oil drilling decision: Victory for local people

Responding to the Supreme Court ruling Conservative run Surrey County Council should have taken into consideration the impact on the environment before approving a drilling site in the Surrey Hills, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:
"This is a victory for local people in Surrey who have stood up to save their precious green land against greedy oil barons and their Conservative backers.
"People in Surrey know that Conservative Ministers and Conservative Councillors took the side of oil barons every step of the way on this. In stark contrast, Liberal Democrat Councillors listened to their local communities and stood up against this damaging drilling in the middle of the Surrey Hills.
"The Surrey Hills and all Protected landscapes must be kept safe from greedy oil barons who show complete disregard for our national environment.”
