Uncaring Govt leaves more people struggling with rising food costs

17 Jul 2023

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to ONS data that shows around 1 in 20 (5%) of adults reported that in the past two weeks they had ran out of food and had been unable to afford more, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:

"The sheer number of people struggling to put food on the table is mortifying. This uncaring Government is presiding over an unprecedented hit to people's living standards, yet they're refusing to lift a finger to help.

"People have had enough of Conservative politicians telling them to hold their nerve and buy cheaper beans. The Government needs to take action now, starting by expanding free school meals to more children and finally putting in place a proper plan to cut food prices."
