Unemployment: no one should have to worry about impact of NICs hike on their job over Christmas

17 Dec 2024

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the latest labour market figures that show unemployment remained at 4.3%, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“Over the Christmas period no one should have to worry about the impact that an impending tax rise may have on their employment.

“The new government must see sense and realise that their self-defeating hike in National Insurance will only make the situation worse for health services and high streets.

“Today, MPs will vote on this NICs rise so Ministers have the opportunity to take stock and back down from this measure which will only hamper efforts to get the economy growing again after years of Conservative mismanagement. We Liberal Democrats will be pushing them on this every step of the way.”
