Job Title: Local Party Organiser
Salary: £23,500 full time equivalent pro-rata. This role will be offered as a 0.5 FTE role.
Location: Guildford Liberal Democrats are based at Old Mission Hall, 53a Woking Road, Guildford, GU1 1QD. The Organiser will need to travel around the local party area on occasion. Some evening and weekend campaign activities will be required by advance agreement.
Duration: The post is offered on a fixed-term contract basis aiming to start by early November 2024 running through to end May 2025.
Transport: Driving licence and vehicle is desirable. Use of public transport for work commitments away from the office is encouraged wherever possible and will be reimbursed subject to prior agreement.
Line Manager: nominated Campaigns Manager
Accountable to: Guildford Liberal Democrat Executive, via the Guildford Liberal Democrats Chair of the Executive.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Local Party Organiser to work for Guildford Liberal Democrats as they prepare to fight for victory in the May 2025 Surrey County Council elections. You will play a central role within the local party and the role presents an opportunity to develop your own skills in a fast-paced political environment as well as playing a leading role in the campaign.
Following victory in May 2023 when Guildford Liberal Democrats took control of the Borough Council and again in July 2024 when we swept away the Conservative opposition and won in the General Election sending Zöe Franklin to Westminster as Guildford’s MP, we are now preparing for the County Council elections next year. We want to repeat our success, could you be part of our victory?
Job Description:
- To participate in the development, updating and delivery of the campaign plan. Specifically to organise and promote canvassing activity and delivery of literature.
- To ensure the development and improvement of organisational capacity in order to achieve the campaign plan including;
- recruiting, activating and organising volunteers and local party activists.
- ensuring volunteers and local party activists receive appropriate training e.g. how to canvass and use MiniVan.
- Leading canvass sessions and action days
- To work with Membership Development Officer to maintain contact with and engage members in the work of the party
- To develop effective communication methods to;
- disseminate information to councillors and campaigners
- to assist with membership recruitment
- manage campaigning and literature delivery
- To oversee the printing and delivery of literature and to oversee and assist in art working of local party and other literature as necessary and making effective use of literature templates supplied by the national party.
- To oversee and assist with the digital campaign e.g. web site, social media, creating videos
- To help develop and circulate media releases and briefings on behalf of and with the approval of the local team.
- To undertake such training as is recommended and provided through the management in order to develop and update required skills.
- To undertake such other reasonable duties as the line manger may require.
In addition the Organiser is expected to:
- Adhere to all health and safety and fire regulations and co-operate with the local party to maintain good standards of health and safety;
- Uphold ethical and professional standards and not behave in a manner that is likely to bring the party into disrepute;
- Promote and sustain a responsible attitude towards equal opportunities and diversity within the party
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development and participate in training relevant to the role.
