Job Title: Local Party Organiser

Salary:  £24,500 - £30,000 full-time equivalent pro-rata (depending on experience).

Hours: Part Time (28 hours per week) over 4 days.

Tenure: The post is offered on a fixed-term contract basis aiming to start by 1st January 2025 running through to end May 2027.

Location: Hybrid, Thatcham office/home

Purpose of the job

Newbury west Berkshire Liberal Democrats Local Party are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can manage a team of volunteers and build campaigning capacity in West Berkshire which includes the Parliamentary Constituencies of Reading West and Mid Berkshire and that of Newbury.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the work, building on our recent success in the Newbury constituency, to deliver campaigning activity, and build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to re-elect a Lib Dem MP in the constituency at the next General Election, as well as holding the unitary authority of West Berkshire and the political elected town councils of Thatcham and Newbury.

Job Description:

  • Take overall responsibility for delivering the agreed constituency campaign plan.
  • Building campaigning and organisational capacity – including recruiting members, donors, deliverers and poster sites.
  • Building and managing a team of constituency volunteers who oversee all aspects of capacity building and campaigning.
  • Designing and delivering an ongoing programme of doorstep communication with voters.
  • Assisting with the design, production, print, and coordination of delivery of campaign literature.
  • Maintaining relevant databases e.g. deliverers, donors, poster sites etc.
  • Organising events e.g. action days, social events, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating social media, website and other digital infrastructure.
  • Supporting fundraising and assisting with fundraising campaigns and events as required.
  • Attending relevant conferences, training and other meetings as required.

Person Specification:

The following criteria are considered essential:

  • Exceptional personal organisation.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, mobilise and manage volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivating and able manage own workload.
  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats.

The following criteria are considered highly desirable:

  • Experience of delivering effective Liberal Democrat campaigns.
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases (e.g. Affinity Publisher, Fleet, Connect)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. West Berkshire is a rural area with outlying villages.
